The hurricane disaster is truly a devastating and heart wrenching event, and I encourage everyone to send support.

I am disappointed, well, rather infuriated, in how a portion of people are reacting to the event. For the first few days there was a supportive tone in the media, and thus a very supportive tone in the people as well. You heard about good will from various amounts of individuals, and America was pulling together to help a devastated part of their nation. Wonderful. Shortly after, the media shows the mass anarchy that New Orleans is experiencing, and hate and animosity rose quickly. While I understand that it is the media that chooses to illustrate only certain facets of the disaster in order to improve ratings, people are taking offense to the event, and also taking the opportunity to get up on their high soap box to complain. This should not be a glowing opportunity to advocate one's strongly opinionated views on races. This should not be a glowing opportunity for strategist politicians to make their move. This should not be a time to bring out one's hate of the government. Last night there was a news segment that put venom in my veins, and actually prompted me to write about it, a rare case in it's own. Comments like "George Bush hates blacks", were just ridiculous, but comments like "I'm ashamed of America" are absolutely uncalled for. Ashamed of the America that is donating and sending prayers and thoughts towards the broken part of our country. Ashamed of the men and women who have gone into the gulf coast states to give assistance to those desperately in need. Ashamed of the nation that's trying to pull together for support. There is enough animosity seething from the affected cities, don't add to the flames. Save the soapboxes or personal agendas for later when people have been rescued, or a few months later when one can criticize with 20/20 hindsight.
Not now.

Send money, send food, send prayers or kind thoughts. Just send support.

On a side note, I don't have a DA account, but if someone wants to use this image for a fundraising piece for a DA account, or any other type of fundraising program, send me a note and I'll hook you up with the image in the appropriate resolutions.

I think its because it didn't affect other people but Louisiana and Mississippi the most. I live in a hurricane danger zone so I can give some apathy but not much. I've experianced the devastation of Ivan and Dennis and a slight grazing from Katrina but I cannot compare neither of the two storms that hit straight on to Katrina. I pray that the people that survived will be okay...and maybe one day, they can finally return home...

Boo hoo Cry me a river and drown in it!
My GOd youre dead on right, tho there are many riotous people and fools down there, there are so many people and babies and sick children and elderly that need our help, of course, having no job, i cant donate, but my family sure as hell is.

tho i dont see the point in rebuilding the city, its fifteen feet below sea level in the most hurricane stricken place in the nation, its just stupid to spend billions of dollars and many years rebuilding it, but we should defiinetlyget everyone out as fast as we can

"How many people does it take to rape and drag out a franchise to death?"
"I don't know. How many people are on the Sonic Team?"
Oh my, what a beautiful, yet morbid picture. Yes, they were talking about the hurricane in church; what a horror it must be for those like the girl in this picture who had to watch their homes and families being destroyed by the destructive Hurricane Katrina. This picture really describes the devistation that people must have felt; and it describes how the New York Times described it; "The Death of a City"
