Katrina 2005 - Send Support

Description

The hurricane disaster is truly a devastating and heart wrenching event, and I encourage everyone to send support.

I am disappointed, well, rather infuriated, in how a portion of people are reacting to the event. For the first few days there was a supportive tone in the media, and thus a very supportive tone in the people as well. You heard about good will from various amounts of individuals, and America was pulling together to help a devastated part of their nation. Wonderful. Shortly after, the media shows the mass anarchy that New Orleans is experiencing, and hate and animosity rose quickly. While I understand that it is the media that chooses to illustrate only certain facets of the disaster in order to improve ratings, people are taking offense to the event, and also taking the opportunity to get up on their high soap box to complain. This should not be a glowing opportunity to advocate one's strongly opinionated views on races. This should not be a glowing opportunity for strategist politicians to make their move. This should not be a time to bring out one's hate of the government. Last night there was a news segment that put venom in my veins, and actually prompted me to write about it, a rare case in it's own. Comments like "George Bush hates blacks", were just ridiculous, but comments like "I'm ashamed of America" are absolutely uncalled for. Ashamed of the America that is donating and sending prayers and thoughts towards the broken part of our country. Ashamed of the men and women who have gone into the gulf coast states to give assistance to those desperately in need. Ashamed of the nation that's trying to pull together for support. There is enough animosity seething from the affected cities, don't add to the flames. Save the soapboxes or personal agendas for later when people have been rescued, or a few months later when one can criticize with 20/20 hindsight.
Not now.

Send money, send food, send prayers or kind thoughts. Just send support.
